It would be an interesting antitrust case

I'd love to hear the opinion of an antitrust attorney. If the networks and bowl stakeholders were to form a master agreement forming a playoff that were only open to conference champions, could independent programs claim that that arrangement showed the parties had market power, anticompetitive effect, and the rest of the antitrust laundry list?

Someone might have to stand up and extol the virtues of only allowing the champ to move on the next level. Meanwhile the SEC's past arguments for allowing two participants would come back to bite.

Or scenario 2: if there is an exclusive 'power 4' with a playoff for the 4 champs, could someone prove the factors? Seems a LOT more likely in this case.
